When selling a security system, the initial push is to always harp on the threat of an intruder. According to the data from a 2012 FBI crime report, one in 36 houses will be broken into, at a rate of one every 15 seconds, totaling $4.7 billion in property losses, annually. Scary, right? What they don’t tell you is that crime continues to drop every year, and affluent neighborhoods experience far fewer break-ins.
So, why tell you this if we’re trying to sell you a home protection system? Because smart-home protection systems offer far more than just alarms. Protect your house from flooding with an automated water valve. Get a discount on home-owners insurance with fire/smoke detection. Keep unwanted guests (animals) from bunking overnight with an “open garage door” notification. Lock, or unlock your doors remotely. The uses, and associated perks, are many. While safety will always be the chief issue addressed, the benefits not normally mentioned make it a much easier sell.
